Without A Song

Voices Rising’s Recording of “Without a Song”

Throughout the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the prospect of singing together in person again offered a sustaining hope for members of Voices Rising. During this time apart, a small group of our singers recorded the Vincent Youmans classic “Without a Song,” with lyrics by William Rose and Edward Eliscu, and arranged by Kirby Shaw. Members recorded audio and video tracks and our own Anna Meyer put the video together, artfully capturing the beautiful imagery of the song’s lyrics. “Without a Song” is a testament to the power of music, to its omnipresence, and to its sustaining energy. During our time of separation, the virtual choir was the only way to capture some of this energy. We are delighted to share the video with you today.

In the song’s final line, you’ll hear, “I only know there ain’t no love at all without a song.” We so enjoyed getting to share some of that love and energy with you as we finally performed in person again this past June!
