Know before you go: Church of the Covenant

Overview

Church of the Covenant is located on the corner of Newbury and Berkeley Streets in downtown Boston and a short walk from either the Arlington or Copley Square MBTA train stations. The building is handicap accessible with a ramp, an elevator, and an accessible bathroom. The lighting in the church is dim in the evening. We will have several braille programs available upon request at the ticketing table. For those with sensory sensitivities, it will be fairly loud at times during the concert, and possibly before the concert starts depending on how animated the audience is.

Parking and access by MBTA

There is very limited, metered parking in the surrounding area with the meters ending by 8pm. However, there are also nearby parking garages in which spaces can be reserved using online tools such as Spot Hero for the Back Bay area. Back Bay Garage (with entrances on Clarendon Street and St. James Street) is the closest, covered parking. Other nearby garages are located on Clarendon Street, just beyond Boylston and just beyond Stuart. In addition, there are outdoor lots located at Newbury at Dartmouth Streets, several blocks from the church.

Take any Green Line train via the B, C, D, or E lines to either the Arlington or Copley Square stations (both of which are accessible T stops) and walk approximately two blocks. From the Arlington stop, walk away from the Boston Common down Boylston Street one block and then make your first right onto Berkeley Street for one block. For the Copley Square T station, walk toward the Boston Common on Bolyston Street for two blocks and then make a left onto Berkeley Street and travel one block. The Church is on the corner of Berkeley and Newbury Streets.

Accessible entrances

The primary accessible entrance is located at 67 Newbury Street, up a ramp, next to the entrance for the Gallery NAGA Gallery, which is also part of the church. There will be an usher to escort our audience members to accessible seating in the sanctuary. Accessible seating to accommodate mobility devices are located on the left and right aisles. Because this entrance is constrained, we ask that audience goers who can enter via steps and walking use the entrance down the street, closer to the corner of Newbury and Berkeley Streets.

Entrances via steps and walking

Audience members may use either the formal doors to the sanctuary located on Newbury Street, or may use the accessible entrance at 67 Newbury Street further from the corner of Newbury and Berkeley Streets. The formal doors to the sanctuary have two uneven steps to enter the sanctuary where the performance is located and tickets and merchandise will be sold.

Restrooms

All bathrooms are gender neutral. One is nine steps up with two hand rails. The other bathroom is wheelchair accessible on ground level near the 67 Newbury Street entrance.

Sanctuary

Church of the Covenant has traditional pew seating. Wheelchair users may speak with ushers about accessible seating, especially for those audience members who purchased priority seating tickets for the first several rows of seating.
